Our story

Mates first, partners second.

Hamish and Tony met in 2004 over Tuesday-night squash with a bunch of mates. Twenty years on, they’ve put their two trades, planning and construction, under one roof.

Building on the rural fringe takes two things most firms keep apart: someone who can get the land consented, and someone who can deliver the build. Rural Premise Co. brings both together so businesses can move from “we found a block” to “we’re open” without juggling a chain of consultants.

From the first zoning question to the final sign-off, you deal with the people who’ve done it before, and who’ll tell you straight whether a site stacks up.

Meet the directors

Two specialists, one team.

The planning and the build, led by people who’ve spent their careers doing exactly that.

Hamish is a specialist urban planner and resource-management consultant who founded his own planning consultancy in 1999. He brings extensive commercial, industrial and rural consenting experience, and an instinct for finding the consent solution before it becomes a problem.

He knows the RMA, the zoning rules and the councils inside out, and spends much of his time in the community sharing that planning knowledge. At RPC, Hamish makes fringe land buildable.

Tony brings more than 30 years in commercial construction. He holds a Bachelor of Construction Management and completed a management cadetship with Mainzeal Property and Construction in 1997, before founding his own commercial construction company in 2005, delivering everything from coldstores and industrial food-processing lines to large-scale fit-outs, in New Zealand and the UK.

That depth means he reads a site, a programme and a budget the way few can. At RPC, Tony leads construction and Hamish leads planning and consenting, turning a consented block into premises that are on time, on budget and built to work.

Build it

Tony leads Construction & Delivery, managing design development, contractors and programme through to finished, working premises.

Most firms do one or the other. We do both, which is exactly what building on the rural fringe takes.
